The "Railway for Bikes" is a picturesque bicycle route that follows the path of a former, almost completely dismantled railway line, stretching from Stupułów near Kożuchów to Świętno in the Wolsztyn district. Here, you'll also find a scenic wooden observation tower, similar to the one located in Święte near Lubiatowo by Lake Sławskie.
This cycling path is exceptionally scenic, traversing stunning landscapes – through agricultural fields, meadows, deciduous forests, pine woods, railway embankments, and bridges. The standout feature along the route is the historic railway bridge over the Oder River in Stany, offering breathtaking views.
The bridge is illuminated at night, creating a stunning visual effect.
The "Railway for Bikes" route is well-marked and maintained, running on smooth asphalt, appealing particularly to road cyclists who enjoy maintaining a good pace. Along the route, there are numerous benches and covered shelters where cyclists can rest, eat comfortably, enjoy the tranquility and beauty of nature, and seek refuge from rain if needed.
The route ends in Świętno, where it hits the border of the Lubusz Province. Due to a lack of agreement with the authorities of the neighboring county, the path has not yet been extended further along the former tracks. However, cyclists can continue 4km through the forest to Świętno (there are signposts), and from there, head out on asphalt bike paths in the Wolsztyn area.
Conversely, heading towards Nowa Sól, cyclists will enter a highly developed network of bike paths and junctions. From here, they can reach Stypułów beyond Kożuchów, and even take the newly constructed, fully asphalted bike path to Zatonie, and further to Kiełpin, Ochla, Jędrzychów and Zielona Góra, where they will join the path leading to the "Green Arrow" all the way to the northern boundaries of Zielona Góra and onwards to Sulechów.
For experienced cyclists, this offers an excellent opportunity for a very long ride from Stupułów to Sulechów. Will you dare to try it?
